ABOUT BRIAN'S HOPE for the FUTURE

Brian was a light in so many people's lives _ a light that will never fade. His care and compassion were gifts that he gave without hesitation. From being an avid supporter of his sister Betsy's singing career, to making friends feel like family and caring about the welfare of strangers. He was an active member in Big Brothers, Big Sisters for many years. He also had a zest for life that was apparent in his love of sports, especially his passion for skiing. As an adult, Brian became actively involved in biking, even finishing the "MS 150 Pedal to the Point" bike tour from the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds to Cedar Point.

He was a committed and exceptional student. Brian was a sophomore in high school when he was admitted to the CWRU Molecular Cardiovascular Research Center and Department of Nutrition as a research and lab assistant (under the chairmanship of Dr. Henri Brunengraber, M.D., Ph.D.), a position usually reserved for undergraduates who have taken college-level science courses. Brian's academic and professional career only soared from there. He assisted in projects funded by the Michael J. Fox Foundation and University of Wisconsin Department of Human Oncology, presented twice to the Society of Neuroscience and was published in the Journal of Neuroscience. He was a talented and accomplished researcher at the University of Wisconsin

His hope was to find a cure for cancer - to make a difference in the world, just as he made a difference in the lives of everyone he touched.
